Optimization of White-Rot Fungi Mycelial Culture Components for Bioremediation of Pharmaceutical-Derived Pollutants

چکیده
White-rot fungi can degrade a wide spectrum of environmental pollutants, including pharmaceuticals, which are not efficiently removed from wastewater by conventional methods, e.g., the activated sludge method. However, treatment with use fungal cultures (mycoremediation) also has significant limitations: among others, need to appropriate, often-expensive culture media. We aimed screen 18 media ingredients, seven agrifood byproducts for Armillaria mellea, Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Pleurotus ostreatus in submerged select low-cost medium optimal biomass production laccase activity. screened nine mathematic models describe relation growth amount selected byproduct Finally, we tested ability strain highest mycelial enzyme-producing eight drug contaminants. Three variants composed provided both efficient production: corn steep liquor + poplar, dried distillers grains solubles poplar 50%. Among investigated models, Han–Levenspiel equation described well specific rate function nominal substrate concentration one-component ostreatus, fungus ligninolytic enzyme activity, cultured liquor, six contaminants removal degree 20–90% 48 h. The obtained data on consisting insoluble components provide initial upscaling process designing an appropriate type bioreactor removing water.

The Potential of White-rot Fungi in Bioremediation
The Iignin-degrading enzyme system of white-rot fungi, which are mostly basidiomycetes, has been studied intensively in recent years. The extracellular component of the system is comprised of Iignin peroxidase, manganese peroxidase, glyoxal oxidase and certain metabolites. Lignin is fragmented by this system, and the plethora of degradation products taken up by the hyphae and further metabolize...
متن کاملEnvironmental Factors and Bioremediation of Xenobiotics Using White Rot Fungi
This review provides background information on the importance of bioremediation approaches. It describes the roles of fungi, specifically white rot fungi, and their extracellular enzymes, laccases, ligninases, and peroxidises, in the degradation of xenobiotic compounds such as single and mixtures of pesticides. We discuss the importance of abiotic factors such as water potential, temperature, a...
متن کاملSelection of White-rot Fungi for Biopulping*
Different rates of wood decay and ligninolytic activity were found in wood decayed by various white-rot fimgi. Chemical and ultrastructural analyses showed wood decayed by Coriolus versicolor consisted of a nonselective attack on all cell wall components. Lignin degradation was restricted to the cell wall adjacent to hyphae or around the circumference of cell lumina. Decay by Phellinus pini, Ph...
متن کاملThe potential for white-rot fungi in the treatment of pollutants
Lignin-degrading white-rot fungi have the unique ability to degrade/mineralize a broad spectrum of structurally diverse toxic environmental pollutants. Extracellular peroxidases are important in degrading some, but not all, xenobiotic compounds. More research is needed to realize the potential of white-rot fungi in field-scale applications. Recent progress in our knowledge of the biochemistry a...
متن کاملBioremediation of Direct Blue 14 and Extracellular Ligninolytic Enzyme Production by White Rot Fungi: Pleurotus Spp.
In the present investigation, four species of white rot fungi (Pleurotus), that is, P. flabellatus, P. florida, P. ostreatus and P. sajor-caju were used for decolorization of direct blue 14 (DB14). Among all four species of Pleurotus, P. flabellatus showed the fastest decolorization in petri plates on different concentration, that is, 200 mg/L, 400 mg/L, and 600 mg/L. All these four species wer...
